Female Condoms: Information & Insights

Female condoms are thin pouches worn by women during intercourse. They line the vagina and aids in preventing unwanted pregnancies and STDs or sexually transmitted diseases. Basically, there are two kinds of female condoms. Read on to find out which will work best for you.

The FC/FC2 female condoms

They measure about 6.5 inches. It is made of polyurethane sheath, which has a flexible ring at the end. At the closed tips of these female condoms are the rings that are to be inserted into the vagina. This will help secure the condom in place. On other end is a ring that is placed outside the woman's vulva. These rings serve as guides in the penetration and also bars the sheath from being bunched up inside the sex organ.

The VA w.o.w. condom

The other kind is called the VA w.o.w Condom Femininen. These female condoms are latex-made and quite elastic. They are lubricated minus any traces of spermicide contents.

Tips in using female condoms

In inserting the VA female condoms, have the frame and sponge close to each other. With two fingers, push the closed tip with the sponge deep into the vagina. Frames of the female condoms have to stay outside the vagina. Have enough lubricant so that the condom remains fixed in place.

Take note: female condoms must not be used simultaneously with the men's condoms. It would only create friction and cause both of them to be broken. In case female condoms slipped off in the middle of sex, stop at once and take the condom out. Put in another one and add some more lubricant.

Advantages of using female condoms

  • If the man refuses to wear condom, you could put on yours.
  • Female condoms could be worn up to eight hours before actual sex.
  • FC female condoms are composed of nitrile and polyurethane, and these are less likely to give allergic reactions, as opposed to what latex does. Moreover, they are thin, so your pleasure would be maintained.
  • The downsides of using female condoms

    • Female condoms score lower rates in the prevention of pregnancies compared to other alternatives. This is because they are often not used or worn properly.
    • They are quite expensive and quite limited in terms of availability in certain places.
    • There are those who use female condoms for anal sex, but they could be complicated to use and sometimes painful to the users. Male condoms for anal sex is still better.
