Female Condom

Sex should be a shared responsibility by two consenting adults, be it a casual hook-up or random sex. You cannot just blame it all on your boyfriend if you got pregnant at the peak of your career. You should take full responsibility of your body by engaging only in safe sex. If you can't make your man wear condoms all the time, then you should be wearing one. Yes, you heard it right! A female condom can protect you from STD or the risk of unplanned pregnancy. It is also more convenient than taking birth control pills, which can have some undesirable effects such as weight gain.

Yes, you heard it right! A female condom can protect you from STD or the risk of unplanned pregnancy. It is also more convenient than taking birth control pills, which can have some undesirable effects such as weight gain.
What exactly is a female condom?
The female condom works like the regular condom for men. The thin sheath or pouch is worn to trap the sperm and prevent any shared risk of sexually transmitted diseases through the exchange of body fluids. Currently, the common types of female condom available are the FC/FC2 condom and the VA (short for VA w.o.w. Condom Feminine).
The FC female condom is available in Europe since 1992 and in the US since 1993. This female condom is made of polyurethane sheath with flexible rings found on each end. To wear the female condom properly, the ring (at the closed end) is placed inside the vagina to hold it in place, while at the open end of the sheath, the ring is placed at the entrance of the vagina, particularly outside the vulva. The ring at the open end of the sheath is used as a guide for penetration. It also prevents the sheath from getting displaced inside. This female condom comes with a silicone-based lubricant. But unlike condoms for men, it doesn't have spermicide. The only main difference of FC2 female condom from FC female condom is the material used. FC2 uses nitrile for cheaper production cost.
VA is commonly distributed for HIV prevention programs. This female condom is made of latex, and it's known for its elasticity. The open end contains a rounded triangular frame. The closed end has a sponge to guide its way inside the vagina. Just like the FC/FC2 female condom, it doesn't have spermicide. Since this female condom is made of latex, the use of oil-based lubricants should be avoided.
What are the benefits and disadvantages of wearing a female condom?
The Fc/FC2 female condom can actually be worn 8 hours before the sexual contact. Polyurethane and nitrile, materials used in making the female condom, are safe to use because they don't cause any allergy. You can also use both oil-based and water-based lubricants even when wearing the condom. Both polyurethane and nitrile does not affect sensivity and the sensation because they're thin and are known to be good conductors of heat. However, the main disadvantage in wearing a female condom is the hassle of putting it on and removing it. It can also make noise, though you can lube up to prevent this.
